Stuyvesant Hall - Ohio Wesleyan University
Delaware, Ohio

2013 Preservation Merit Award

After 15 months of construction, a landmark at Ohio Wesleyan, Stuyvesant Hall was brought back to its’ original brilliance.  The 74,000 square foot renovation touched every part of the building to incorporate energy efficient systems that are environmentally friendly and follow standards of LEED (Energy and Environmental Design).  As a Historic Landmark, the renovation plans were also certified by the Ohio Historic Preservation Office.

The project rehabbed 243 student rooms and added several gathering spaces on each floor for students to interact and study together.  The lower level of the building known as the Rathskeller received new terrazzo flooring and a Starbucks.  The Smoker room and stage were refinished and is now adjacent to a beautiful cooking space for students and faculty to utilize.  In addition to the extensive renovations that took place inside, a new south entrance was constructed to create an outdoor space that includes a fire pit for students to enjoy.  Additionally a brick terrace was added in the courtyard that allows for small gatherings or outdoor teaching space.  The signature bell tower was fully revitalized while exterior brick was pointed and new historically accurate windows were installed.

This was an exceptional project for everyone involved.  At every stage of the construction project, alumni visited the site and recounted their memories of the facility and expressed their excitement regarding “Stuy’s” future.  We are honored to help preserve Stuyvesant Hall for future generations of OWU students.
